Delta Air Lines to End Service at Midland International Air & Space Port

September 3, 2025 | ATLANTA

Delta Air Lines announced today that it will permanently discontinue all flights to Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF) in Texas, with the final departures scheduled for November 8, 2025. The decision, attributed to persistently low passenger demand, marks the end of over a year of service connecting Midland and Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) via three daily flights ¹².

According to U.S. Department of Transportation data cited by Delta, load factors on the Midland-Austin route averaged below 60% over the past year, falling short of the airline’s targets for sustainable operations ¹². “We continually adjust our network to reflect market demand,” said Delta CEO Edward Bastian in a statement released today.

Passengers holding existing bookings on Delta flights from Midland will be contacted directly by the airline’s customer service teams to arrange refunds or alternative travel options, and are advised not to cancel their tickets until Delta reaches out to ensure proper processing of their refund ¹. Southwest Airlines remains the dominant carrier at Midland, operating one daily non-stop flight to Austin, and is expected to continue service without change.

Local officials expressed disappointment at Delta’s withdrawal but emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance the airport’s connectivity. “While we regret Delta’s decision, Midland International continues to explore new airline partnerships and is investing in terminal improvements to better serve our community,” said Councilwoman Robin Poole, liaison to the Airports Department ¹.

As Delta shifts capacity away from Midland, the airline will maintain and expand its presence at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, where it plans to launch new routes and deepen its operations in the coming months.
