Jimmy Kimmel Returns with Fiery Monologue, Dispels Italy Rumors and Announces Brooklyn Run

NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2025 - After an extended summer hiatus, Jimmy Kimmel made a triumphant return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday night, opening his monologue with pointed barbs at President Donald Trump before addressing swirling rumors about his future and unveiling plans to take the show on the road to Brooklyn.
In a blistering opening, Kimmel quipped, “What a weird summer. Can anything just be normal anymore? I tried to ignore the news, I tried to disconnect. It’s impossible; you can’t turn him off. He won’t power down. He’s like Ultron, he just keeps going. Every day it’s something crazier than the next,” before reading off a litany of Trump’s recent antics and joking, “Did we hurt your feelings? You want us to be canceled because we make jokes about you?”
Kimmel then confronted persistent speculation that he would flee the United States after obtaining Italian citizenship, clarifying, “I’m not moving to Italy. I never said that. This is where I live, this is my country, I have no intention of running away from it, especially because of Donald Trump. Let me tell you something, I would move into Mar-a-Lago if I could just to drive him insane.”
Later in the evening, Kimmel provided additional perspective on his summer break, recounting how he briefly took a job as a camera operator at a Coldplay concert to escape the nonstop stream of headlines-only to return to an “unending stream of nonsense” from the White House, likening the relentless coverage of Trump to a film villain who “won’t shut down.”
As proof that the Late Night sweepstakes are very much alive on ABC, Kimmel announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will film five episodes from Brooklyn’s Howard Gilman Opera House at the Brooklyn Academy of Music from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, with Stephen Colbert already slated as the first guest for that run. The Brooklyn stint marks the show’s seventh visit to BAM in its 22-year history.
