Jannik Sinner Storms Through to US Open Semifinal Contention

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his imperious run at Flushing Meadows by dominating compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in their all-Italian quarterfinal on Wednesday evening. The defending champion raced through the opening two sets, 6-1, 6-4, to seize a decisive two-set lead and move within one set of a place in the semifinals.
Playing under the lights on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Sinner asserted control from the outset. He broke Musetti’s serve twice in the first set and completed it with an ace after just 27 minutes. In the second set, Sinner’s relentless groundstrokes and aggressive return game yielded another crucial break at 4-4, enabling him to close out the set and apply unrelenting pressure.
Earlier in the tournament, Sinner demolished Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1-the only player besides Carlos Alcaraz to have beaten him this season-prompting Bublik to quip at the net, “I’m not so bad, but you’re the GOAT”. With this latest performance, Sinner extended his winning streak at hard-court Grand Slams to 25 matches and underlined his status as the player to beat in New York.
Sinner will return to Arthur Ashe Stadium later today to serve for the match and a berth in the semifinal, where he will face the winner of Félix Auger-Aliassime’s quarterfinal clash with Alex de Minaur.
