Superman Sequel “Man of Tomorrow” Greenlit for July 2027

NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2025 - DC Studios co-CEO and filmmaker James Gunn announced today that the follow-up to this summer’s blockbuster Superman will be titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow and is slated to premiere on July 9, 2027.

In a social media post, Gunn shared a Jim Lee illustration depicting Superman (David Corenswet) leaning on a mechanical-suited Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), confirming both leads will return and teasing an intensified rivalry powered by Luthor’s Warsuit. Gunn, who wrote and directed the original film that has grossed over $611 million worldwide, emphasized that this installment will expand upon what he terms the “Superman Saga,” rather than serving as a straightforward sequel.

The announcement follows Gunn’s remarks last month that he had completed the treatment for the next chapter and aimed to begin production imminently. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously affirmed that Gunn would once again helm writing and directing duties after a comprehensive creative overhaul of the character.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow arrives less than two years after Superman redefined the DC Universe, marking the fastest turnaround for a Superman sequel since 1987. With high expectations fueled by the original’s critical praise and box-office success, Gunn’s next chapter promises to delve deeper into Lex Luthor’s mechanized threat and the evolving dynamic between hero and villain.
