White House Extends National Emergency and Hosts Polish President

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Reuters) - The White House today issued a formal notice continuing the national emergency declared in 2018 to address foreign interference in U.S. elections, and President Donald Trump is scheduled to welcome Polish President Karol Nawrocki for talks on security and energy cooperation.

A notice published in the Federal Register announces that, under Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act, the national emergency “with respect to foreign interference in or undermining public confidence in United States elections” is extended for an additional year beyond its September 12, 2025 expiration date. The notice, signed by the President on August 29, 2025, reaffirms concerns about the threat posed by foreign entities using digital communications to influence or disrupt U.S. electoral processes.

In a separate event today, President Trump will receive President Nawrocki at the White House to discuss Russia’s war in Ukraine, energy security, and bilateral ties. The meeting follows Trump’s public support for Nawrocki during Poland’s recent elections and is expected to focus on strengthening NATO cooperation amid growing tensions with Moscow. The two leaders will also explore opportunities to enhance U.S.-Polish energy collaboration, particularly in liquefied natural gas supplies to reduce European dependence on Russian energy.
