Yankees Dominate Astros 7-1 in Wednesday Night Showdown

HOUSTON - Trent Grisham crushed his second grand slam in five days and Jazz Chisholm Jr. drilled two homers to lead the New York Yankees to a commanding 7-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Max Fried (15-5) delivered a stellar performance, scattering four hits and one earned run over seven innings while striking out five, helping the Yankees rebound after Monday’s loss and maintain pressure in the AL East race.

The Yankees struck first in the second inning when Chisholm launched a two-run blast to right field. In the fifth, with New York leading 2-0, Framber Valdez walked Paul Goldschmidt and surrendered consecutive singles to Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge, loading the bases. After a Giancarlo Stanton strikeout, Grisham seized the moment by sending a towering grand slam into the left-field seats, instantly inflating the lead to 6-0. Chisholm added his second homer in the eighth, a solo shot, sealing the final margin.

Houston’s lone run came in the sixth inning when Carlos Correa singled and later scored on a fielder’s choice. The Astros managed just five hits and committed no errors, but struggled to generate offense against Fried’s pinpoint pitching.

José Caballero was ejected in the fourth for disputing a call after being struck by a bouncing pitch, marking the game’s lone controversy. New York’s bullpen-Philippe Aumont, Nick Nelson and Clay Holmes-took over from Fried and combined for two scoreless innings to preserve the win.

The series shifts to New York on Thursday night, with the Yankees sending RHP Will Warren (8-6, 4.30 ERA) to the mound against the Astros’ RHP Jason Alexander (4-1, 4.61) as both clubs vie for late-season positioning.
