Providence Unveils 2025 PVDFest Mural at AS220 Gallery

Providence, R.I. - On Thursday, September 4, 2025, Mayor Brett P. Smiley joined representatives from The Avenue Concept and AS220 to unveil the official 2025 PVDFest mural, PROVCurio, on the exterior wall of the AS220 Project Space building at Snow and Washington Streets in Downtown Providence. The new artwork, created by muralist Shey “Rí Acu” Rivera Ríos, marks the unofficial countdown to PVDFest, Providence’s signature outdoor arts festival, which returns September 5-6 with world-class performances, interactive installations, and culinary offerings.
During the ceremony, Smiley highlighted the mural’s role in celebrating Rhode Island’s vibrant arts community and engaging residents and visitors. “PVDFest is a testament to Providence’s creative spirit,” he said. “This mural not only beautifies our cityscape but also amplifies our artists’ voices and welcomes the world to experience our culture.” City officials noted that PROVCurio reflects themes of curiosity, innovation, and community connection, core values of PVDFest.
The event featured remarks by Tracy Jonsson-Laboy, Executive Director of The Avenue Concept, and Joe Wilson Jr., Director of the Department of Art, Culture, and Tourism, who praised the collaboration between local nonprofits, artists, and city leadership. Attendees also enjoyed live music performances and previews of festival installations planned for India Point Park, WaterFire Providence, and other Downtown venues.
PVDFest 2025 officially kicks off Friday, September 5, at 10 a.m., with an opening parade led by Mayor Smiley and cultural delegations from Rhode Island’s sister cities. The weekend’s lineup includes dance ensembles, projection mapping shows, interactive workshops, and food truck gatherings, promising an immersive experience for patrons of all ages.
