Federal Solar Tax Credits Sunset Early; Caddo Nation’s Child Care Center to Benefit

September 4, 2025 - HINTON, OK Federal incentives for solar installations are expiring ahead of schedule following passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill this summer. Homeowners now have until December 31 to qualify for a 30 percent residential tax credit, while commercial projects retain incentives only through 2027. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has also terminated the $7 billion Solar For All program, which supported solar adoption in disadvantaged communities.
In Oklahoma, the Caddo Nation has partnered with EightTwenty and Brightwell to harness these closing incentives for a new child care center. By stacking the 30 percent federal solar investment tax credit with tribal and domestic-content bonuses, the project secured upfront funding that will significantly reduce the facility’s electric bills. Construction on the solar array begins mid-September, with the center slated to open in January.
Tribal leaders emphasize that energy cost savings will bolster citizen services and economic development. “Reducing the spend on energy is something Indian Country is very much in need of,” said Zackeree Kelin, vice chairman of the Caddo Nation Economic Development Authority. The installation, named Saku-Caddo for “sun”-will remain grid-connected but offset a substantial portion of operating costs through on-site generation.
The policy shift reflects the Trump administration’s broader “all-of-the-above” strategy. Federal rollback of renewables incentives aims to expand oil and gas, while critics warn of stalled clean-energy growth and higher consumer prices. Oklahoma advocates call for diversified energy portfolios to ensure grid reliability and guard against overreliance on any single source.
