Tornado Warning Issued for Henry County, Alabama

September 4, 2025 - The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Tornado Warning for southeastern Henry County in southeastern Alabama. The warning is in effect until 2:30 PM CDT.
The warning was issued at 12:45 PM CDT after Doppler radar detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moving northeast at 30 mph toward the Columbia area. Residents in the warning area are urged to take immediate safety precautions:
- Seek shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Avoid windows and protect yourself from flying debris by covering with mattresses or heavy blankets.
- If you are outdoors, in a vehicle, or in a mobile home, move to the closest substantial shelter.
The storm may produce large hail and damaging straight-line winds. A tornado has not been sighted, but conditions are favorable for rapid tornadic development. Motorists should not attempt to outrun the storm by vehicle; highways US-431 and SR-95 lie within the path of concern. Emergency managers advise keeping a battery-powered weather radio on and monitoring NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for updates.
Residents with storm damage or sightings of funnel clouds should report them to the National Weather Service via smartphone app or by contacting local law enforcement. Remain in shelter until the warning expires or until an “all clear” is issued by the NWS.
