High School Football Season Kicks Off in Memphis Metro Area

The 2025 high school football season officially began on Friday, September 5, with 62 games played across the Memphis metropolitan region. Friday night’s action featured several marquee matchups, drawing eager crowds to high school stadiums throughout western Tennessee.

At Oxford High School, Oxford defeated South Panola in a tightly contested opening kickoff, with the Tigers executing a late-game drive to seal a 21-17 victory. In the Bolivar Central vs. Halls contest, Bolivar Central came away with a 28-14 win, highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown run from running back Marcus Hayes.

The New Albany vs. Senatobia game saw New Albany rally from an early deficit, scoring two second-half touchdowns to edge Senatobia, 17-14. Meanwhile, Middleton posted a convincing 35-7 victory over Liberty Tech Magnet, as quarterback Eli Thompson threw four touchdown passes.

Several other notable Friday results included:

  • Humboldt 14, South Fulton 7, in a defensive struggle decided by a fourth-quarter field goal.
  • Jackson Christian 42, Evangelical Christian 13, powered by a 200-yard rushing performance from senior back Tyrone Jenkins.
