3.5-Magnitude Quake Shakes La Verne Area

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck six miles north of La Verne in the San Gabriel Mountains at about 5:11 p.m. local time on Saturday, lightly rattling homes across eastern Los Angeles County.

The temblor, recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey, underscores Southern California’s constant seismic risk, even when quakes fall below damaging strength.

Residents from Claremont to Pomona reported mild shaking but no injuries or structural damage. The USGS noted the quake’s shallow depth of roughly 7 km amplified its perceptibility at the surface. No significant aftershocks have been recorded as of early Sunday.

State and local emergency officials issued reminders to test earthquake preparedness plans and secure heavy furniture, emphasizing that even moderate quakes can trigger hazardous falling objects.
