Pyrite Fire Burns 200 Acres Near Jurupa Valley, Remains Uncontained

JURUPA VALLEY, CA (Sept. 6, 2025) - The Pyrite Fire, which ignited Friday evening near Pyrite Avenue and Granite Hill Drive, has scorched approximately 200 acres and remains 0 percent contained as of Saturday night, prompting expanded evacuation orders and warnings in surrounding communities.

An aggressive brush fire fueled by dry, windy conditions raced through light vegetation, forcing mandatory evacuations in zones JUR-0018 and JUR-0019, while warnings were issued for JUR-0034, JUR-0020 and JUR-0036. Riverside County and CAL FIRE crews continue to battle the blaze using hand crews, engines and air support, but full containment is not expected until weather conditions moderate.

By 8 p.m. Saturday, fire officials reported the fire’s rapid 50-acre growth overnight and warned residents that shifting winds could drive new flare-ups toward Jurupa Hills and Sunnyslope neighborhoods. Evacuees have been directed to the care and reception site at Jurupa Valley High School (10551 Bellegrave Avenue), while evacuated pets are sheltered at the county animal facility on Van Buren Boulevard.

Officials confirmed that no structures have been lost, though several outbuildings remain threatened. Investigators are working to determine the fire’s origin, with no cause yet established. Authorities urge residents in evacuation zones to remain alert for updates via social media and emergency alert systems, and to prepare for prolonged displacement until containment lines hold.
