Domhnall Gleeson Wraps Scottish Highlands Shoot on Debut Feature The Incomer

Domhnall Gleeson wrapped principal photography on the UK debut feature The Incomer today on a remote Scottish island, marking his first lead role in a folk-comedy film. In Louis Paxton’s debut feature, Gleeson plays an awkward council worker sent to uproot two isolated siblings-portrayed by Gayle Rankin and Grant O’Rourke-from their ancestral home. The film blends absurdist humor with themes of identity and community resilience, underscoring the actor’s expanding versatility. Director Louis Paxton described The Incomer as “heartfelt, odd and absurdly funny,” noting that the story draws on the “magical and mysterious history” of Scotland’s remote isles. Gleeson joins a cast that also includes Michelle Gomez, Emun Elliott and John Hannah. Production was backed by Earth Mama producers Shirley O’Connor and Emily Gotto, with shooting completed over the summer in the Scottish Highlands. The Incomer follows a pair of siblings whose life of hunting seabirds and conversing with mythic creatures is upended by Gleeson’s character, Daniel, who arrives to enforce mainland resettlement. The project wraps a six-week shoot and now moves into post-production ahead of an expected 2026 release.
