Marquette Moves Memorial Service for Noah Snyder as Campus Grieves

Marquette University today relocated the memorial Mass for lacrosse player Noah Snyder to the Varsity Theatre and expanded support services after his fatal crash on Sept. 5. University counseling and pastoral resources are now available campus-wide.

The decision follows Saturday’s announcement confirming Snyder’s death alongside teammate Scott Michaud in a two-vehicle collision just off campus. Marquette officials cited the need to accommodate a large gathering of students, staff and family members honor their memory.

Service Relocation and Support

  • The 1 p.m. memorial Mass will be held in the Varsity Theatre, moved from its original location to better serve attendees.
  • The Alumni Memorial Union’s Lunda Room and Henke Lounge will remain open from noon to 3 p.m. for informal gatherings and reflection.
  • Counseling Center staff are on call 24/7 at (414) 288-7172, while the Employee Assistance Program is accessible via LifeMatters at 1-800-634-6433 (Password: MU1).

Background of Tragedy On Sept. 5 at approximately 5 p.m., an SUV carrying Snyder, 20, and Michaud, 19, collided with a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old at North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue in Milwaukee. Both student-athletes were pronounced dead at the scene; four teammates sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle remains in custody pending charges by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Community Response University president Dr. Kimo Ah Yun has urged the Marquette community to keep both families in their thoughts and prayers, emphasizing Snyder’s achievements as a business major and Big East All-Academic Team honoree. Athletic events scheduled for the weekend were canceled in respect for the fallen teammates.

Counseling and pastoral teams will continue offering support throughout the week as students and staff navigate the aftermath of the crash.
