Patrick Wilson Joins Apple TV+‘s ‘Cape Fear’ Series

Lead Patrick Wilson has officially signed on to star in Apple TV+’s upcoming episodic adaptation of Cape Fear, joining Amy Adams and Javier Bardem, Variety reports Friday in Los Angeles.
Nut Graf Wilson’s addition to the cast marks a notable genre shift for the veteran actor, best known for horror franchises like Insidious and The Conjuring. His role alongside Oscar-nominated Adams and Bardem heightens expectations for the 10-episode thriller, which reimagines the classic 1957 John D. MacDonald novel for television.
Details
- Casting Announcement - Variety confirmed Wilson’s casting on September 5, ahead of an official press release from Apple TV+ today.
- Series Premise - The show follows Anna Bowden (Adams) and her husband Tom (Bardem) as they face vengeance from escaped convict Max Cady (Bardem reprise), unleashing terror on their seaside community.
- Production Notes - This marks the first episodic adaptation of Cape Fear, following J. Lee Thompson’s 1962 film and Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake. Filming is slated to begin this fall in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- Wilson’s Background - The actor will shift from paranormal detective Ed Warren to a darker, suspense-driven narrative after reprising his Conjuring role in Last Rites, which opened September 5.
- Release Window - Apple TV+ plans a mid-2026 premiere, positioning Cape Fear as a flagship thriller for the streamer’s lineup.
