Apple Sets iOS 26 Release Date, Unveils Liquid Glass Design and AI Upgrades

Apple announced that iOS 26 will arrive Monday, September 15, featuring a sweeping new “Liquid Glass” interface and enhanced Apple Intelligence tools unveiled alongside the iPhone 17 lineup at its “Awe Dropping” event in Cupertino on September 9.

Liquid Glass overhaul

Apple’s Liquid Glass design introduces semi-transparent UI elements that refract and reflect content in real time, updating lock screens, app icons and buttons across the system. Spatial scenes add a subtle 3D effect to wallpapers, while animated album art brings full-screen playback to life.

Apple Intelligence enhancements

Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime and Phone enables real-time voice and text interpretation across languages.
Visual Intelligence now works on screenshots, allowing users to tap and search or ask questions via an integrated ChatGPT model.
On-device foundation models open new developer frameworks for privacy-protected AI experiences, even offline.

Pre-orders for iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro begin September 12; devices ship September 19.
