Singapore Reaffirms Strategic Ties and Welcomes Philippine Senator

- Minister Chan and Secretary Hegseth reaffirmed the 1990 MOU on bilateral defence, discussing joint R&D and training exercises in the U.S., and Singapore’s acquisition of four P-8A maritime patrol aircraft to enhance maritime security.
- Plans were outlined for continued SAF training detachments in Idaho and Arkansas, and future collaboration on emerging threats through a refreshed Combating Terrorism R&D agreement.
Solidarity with Qatar
- In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore condemned Israel’s airstrikes in Doha on 9 September as a violation of Qatari sovereignty and pledged support for ongoing ceasefire negotiations and hostage-release efforts in Gaza.
Philippine Senator’s Exchange Fellowship
- The Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship program confirmed Senator Loren Legarda will visit Singapore from 11 to 14 September, engaging with senior ministers on carbon credits, water management, urban planning, and climate sustainability before delivering a public lecture at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute.
- Senator Legarda will meet Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, and Ministers Vivian Balakrishnan and Grace Fu, strengthening bilateral ties through knowledge-sharing on environmental and trade issues.
