DermaRite Expands Recall of Over 30 Personal Care Products Amid Bacteria Concerns

September 13, 2025 (North Bergen, NJ). DermaRite Industries LLC has voluntarily expanded its nationwide recall of more than 30 skincare and hygiene products after the discovery of Burkholderia cepacia contamination in multiple lots.
The company announced today that, effective immediately, additional items-including lotions, shampoos, hand soaps and sanitizers-are being pulled from shelves across the United States and Puerto Rico. Health authorities warn that this bacteria can cause severe, potentially life-threatening infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals.
Recall Details and Scope
- Products affected now span 32 SKUs, such as Renew Skin Repair cream, KleenFoam antimicrobial foam soap and Gel Rite instant hand sanitizer.
- Initial recall began in early August with hand soaps and expanded late last month to include antifungal creams and body washes.
- Contamination with B. cepacia poses low risk to healthy skin but may lead to bloodstream infections and sepsis in vulnerable patients.
Company Response and Consumer Guidance
DermaRite pledged transparency and swift resolution in a Sept. 8 press release, emphasizing that wound care and nutritional products remain unaffected. Consumers are urged to:
- Inspect home and facility inventories for recalled items.
- Dispose of any affected products according to local regulations.
- Contact Sedgwick at 888-943-5190 (Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. EST) or email [email protected] for assistance.
Public Health Advisory
Health care providers should report adverse reactions to the FDA’s MedWatch program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that B. cepacia can spread via water, soil and contaminated surfaces, highlighting the importance of preventive measures in clinical and home settings.
DermaRite continues working with the FDA to identify the contamination source and implement corrective actions, reaffirming its commitment to product safety and customer trust.
