MSU Ushers in Revitalized Honors College and Celebrates Athletics at Spartan Stadium

EAST LANSING, Mich., Sept. 13, 2025 - Michigan State University marked a milestone today with the grand opening of the fully renovated Campbell Hall and the annual Homecoming football game, highlighted by halftime recognition of the 2025 Athletics Hall of Fame class and a 17-10 lead for the Spartans at halftime against Youngstown State.

The ribbon-cutting for Campbell Hall, a $37 million renovation project transforming the building into a living-learning hub for MSU Honors College students, drew faculty, donors and trustees, underscoring the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning. At Spartan Stadium, fans experienced Agriculture Day promotions and a special halftime salute to Hall of Famers Mark Dantonio, Tony Keyes, Kori Moster, Caroline Powers, Nick Simmons and Sam Vincent, rekindling Spartan pride and tradition.

Campbell Hall Reimagined for Honors Community

Dedicated Friday, Campbell Hall serves as a residential and academic space for Honors College students following an extensive overhaul to modernize classrooms, study areas and common lounges.

  • The project, approved by the MSU Board of Trustees, integrates sustainability features and collaborative workspaces to foster innovation and community engagement.
  • President Kevin Guskiewicz and Board Chair Kelly Tebay led the ceremony, emphasizing the hall’s role in advancing MSU’s strategic vision for student success.

Halftime Honors and Football Action

While MSU built a 17-10 advantage by halftime against Youngstown State, the stadium erupted when Athletics Director J Batt introduced the six-member Hall of Fame class inducted the previous evening.

  • Each inductee’s plaque now adorns the Clara Bell Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center, celebrating legacy and inspiration for future Spartans.
  • The football matchup featured key performances: MSU controlled the line with 15 first downs and outgained YSU 266-159 yards over the first half, with quarterback Aidan Chiles connecting on 12 passes for 213 yards and the opening touchdown.

Looking Ahead

MSU will continue Homecoming festivities throughout the weekend, with campus tours and family events running through Sunday. The football team aims to extend its nonconference winning streak next week, as the Big Ten slate opens on September 20.
