Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack, Backs Palestine Initiative amid Severe Weather Alerts

RIYADH, Sept. 13 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry denounced a terrorist strike on Pakistani troops, while Riyadh led a UN vote on Palestinian statehood and issued severe weather warnings for the south and west.
Saudi stance on regional security and diplomacy Saudi Arabia condemned Saturday’s attack in northwest Pakistan that killed dozens of soldiers and militants, reaffirming its fight against terrorism and solidarity with Islamabad. Simultaneously, Riyadh sponsored a Saudi-French declaration at the UN General Assembly endorsing an independent Palestinian state, securing 142 votes in favor.
Extreme weather alerts across the Kingdom Heavy rains, hail and flash floods are forecast for Asir, Jazan and Mecca provinces through the weekend. The National Center for Meteorology warned of strong winds, dust storms and marine hazards in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf.
Terror attack condemnation
- The Foreign Ministry “strongly condemned” the assault on Pakistani military convoys near the Afghan border, extending condolences to victims and their families.
- A Pakistani military statement reported at least 12 soldiers and 35 militants killed in two operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
UN vote on Palestine
- At the UN General Assembly, 142 countries backed the Saudi-French resolution calling for recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
- Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi support for a two-state solution and pledged continued diplomatic efforts.
Severe weather warnings
- Light to moderate thunderstorms expected over Asir, Al Baha and Mecca, escalating to heavy downpours and hail in Jazan.
- Dust storms and winds up to 50 km/h could disrupt travel in southern Riyadh and the Eastern Province.
- Marine alerts issued for rough seas in the southern Red Sea (waves up to 2.5 m) and Arabian Gulf (waves up to 1.5 m).
Residents have been urged to avoid flood-prone areas, stay indoors during storms and monitor official updates.
