Bridgton Library Honors Maine’s First Responders on 9/14

BRIDGTON, Maine - Today, Bridgton Public Library held a commemoration for Maine’s First Responders Day, paying tribute to firefighters, EMTs, police officers and other emergency personnel who safeguard the community every day.

The event underscored the legacy of courage dating back to September 11, 2001, and reaffirmed the vital role local first responders play in Bridgton’s safety and wellbeing.

“Never Forget, Always Serve”

Library Director Catherine Foster emphasized that today’s observance connects national remembrance with local gratitude. A display of remembrance materials-including biographies of fallen heroes and tributes from community members-offered visitors a chance to reflect on past sacrifices and ongoing service.

Community Engagement and Resources

• Book Recommendations: Staff curated titles on heroism and public service, encouraging residents to explore 9/11 history and emergency response narratives.
• Reflection Space: A quiet reading nook furnished with commemorative posters invited individuals to share personal messages of thanks on a “Wall of Valor.”
• Outreach: The library will host a panel discussion on emergency preparedness next week, featuring representatives from Bridgton Fire Department and Regional EMS.
