Howard Kurtz Concludes ‘MediaBuzz’ After 12-Year Run on Fox News

Lead: Howard Kurtz aired the final episode of his Sunday media-criticism program MediaBuzz on Fox News today, marking the end of its 12-year tenure as weekend lineup changes take effect.
Nut Graf: The cancellation of MediaBuzz follows Fox News’s broader overhaul of its weekend schedule, which launches new programs and anchors in mid-September. Kurtz will remain with the network as a political media analyst and continue his podcast and Fox News Digital column, underscoring his enduring role covering the media landscape.
Weekend Lineup Overhaul
- Fox News replaces MediaBuzz with The Sunday Briefing, hosted on rotation by White House correspondents Peter Doocy and Jacqui Heinrich, debuting September 21 at 11 a.m. ET.
- The network expands The Big Weekend Show to three hours on Saturdays and Sundays, with Johnny Joey Jones and Tomi Lahren among its permanent panelists.
- Kayleigh McEnany launches Saturday in America from 10 a.m. to noon ET, and Griff Jenkins joins Fox & Friends Weekend as co-host.
Kurtz’s Transition and Reflections Veteran media reporter Kurtz, whose career spans The Washington Post, CNN’s Reliable Sources, and The Daily Beast, said he is “incredibly proud” of MediaBuzz’s balanced approach and devoted audience but acknowledged “time moves on” as he shifts to his new analyst role.
Network Statements “We look forward to continuing his insightful analysis across our programming,” said Jay Wallace, Fox News Media president and executive editor, praising Kurtz as “the lead authority for media coverage in cable news” over the past decade.
Legacy of MediaBuzz Since its October 2013 debut replacing Fox News Watch, MediaBuzz drew over one million viewers in its early months and became the last television show dedicated to media critique following CNN’s 2022 cancellation of Reliable Sources.
What’s Next for Kurtz Kurtz will maintain a presence on Fox News through special appearances, deepen his digital contributions, and host his weekly podcast analyzing media industry developments.
