The Studio, The Pitt and Adolescence Dominate 2025 Emmy Awards

Apple TV+’s The Studio made history with record-breaking 13 wins, while HBO Max’s The Pitt claimed best drama and Netflix’s Adolescence swept limited series categories at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards held Sunday in Los Angeles.
The ceremony, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze at the Peacock Theater, marked a night of breakthrough victories for new series and first-time winners.
Historic Wins for Newcomers
The Studio shattered Emmy records by securing 13 total awards, breaking the all-time record for most wins by a comedy series in a single season. Seth Rogen claimed four individual awards, tying the record for most Emmys won by one person in a single night, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor, Writing, and Directing.
“I’m legitimately embarrassed,” Rogen admitted during one of his acceptance speeches, overwhelmed by the series’ success.
The Pitt, HBO Max’s medical drama, triumphed over heavily favored Severance to win Outstanding Drama Series. Noah Wyle earned his first Emmy after 26 years since his last nomination, winning Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
In his emotional acceptance speech, Wyle dedicated the award to healthcare workers: “To anyone going on shift tonight or coming off shift, thank you for your service. This is for you”.
Record-Breaking Young Winner
Adolescence dominated the limited series categories with six wins, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The Netflix series made history when 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor ever to win an Emmy, claiming Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
“I was nothing three years ago - and now I’m here,” Cooper reflected during his acceptance speech. The British teen, who played a 13-year-old boy accused of murder, beat out established actors including his co-star Ashley Walters and Javier Bardem.
Stephen Graham, who co-created and starred in the series, won Outstanding Lead Actor, while Erin Doherty claimed Outstanding Supporting Actress. Philip Barantini won for Outstanding Directing.
Notable Achievements and Emotional Moments
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won Outstanding Talk Series for the first time, prompting audience chants of “Stephen, Stephen, Stephen”. The win came months after CBS announced the show’s cancellation.
In the drama series categories, Severance stars Britt Lower and Tramell Tillman claimed acting honors, with Tillman becoming the first Black man to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Hacks continued its success with Jean Smart winning Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fourth time and Hannah Einbinder taking Supporting Actress. Einbinder concluded her speech with political statements, calling for a “free Palestine”.
Platform Winners
Apple TV+ emerged as the night’s biggest winner in terms of network success, with The Studio and Severance combining for 19 total wins. Netflix followed with strong showings from Adolescence and other series, while HBO and HBO Max secured victories across multiple categories.
The ceremony featured 26 categories during the main broadcast, with additional Creative Arts Emmy Awards distributed the previous weekend. The eligibility period covered television programming from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025.
Host Nate Bargatze’s charity challenge to keep speeches under 45 seconds ultimately failed, but CBS and Bargatze donated a combined $350,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
