Brandi Carlile Delivers Emotional Performance at Red Rocks

Brandi Carlile wrapped up her three-night sold-out stand at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre today with a powerful finale featuring her new song “Church & State”.

The 11-time Grammy winner completed her “Bramily” Red Rocks run, which began on September 5 and continued through September 7, with performances alongside opening acts Allison Ponthier and Lucius. The concerts served as a preview for her upcoming album “Returning to Myself,” scheduled for release on October 24.

New Song Debuts at Legendary Venue

During her Saturday night performance at the iconic amphitheater, Carlile debuted “Church & State,” a track from her forthcoming album that she described as “an hour of therapy” every time she performs it. The song marked a particularly emotional moment in the evening, reflecting what critics called “more than a hint of anger simmering underneath” her typical exuberant stage presence.

The Red Rocks performances showcased material from both her new solo work and her recent collaborative album “Who Believes in Angels?” with Elton John. Highlights from the weekend included her signature song “The Story” and “Broken Horses,” performed with a tight six-piece band including her longtime collaborators SistaStrings.

Album Announcement Follows Weekend Triumph

Earlier this month on September 3, Carlile announced “Returning to Myself,” her first solo album in four years. The 10-track collection was produced by Carlile alongside Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner, and Justin Vernon, marking a departure from her recent collaborative work.

The album’s title track, also released as a single with an accompanying music video directed by Floria Sigismondi, explores themes of solitude and self-reflection. Other notable tracks include “Joni,” a tribute to her friend and collaborator Joni Mitchell, and a new version of “You Without Me,” previously featured on her album with John.

European Tour Planned for 2025

Looking ahead, Carlile has scheduled international dates including a performance at Le Trianon in Paris on July 7, 2025, as part of “The Lost Time Tour”. The intimate concert will mark a rare European appearance for the Washington state-based artist.

The Red Rocks finale caps a significant period of creativity for Carlile, who has spent recent years collaborating with legends like Mitchell, John, and Tanya Tucker while also serving as a producer for other artists. Her return to solo work represents what she calls a “return to myself” after years of musical partnerships.
