Texas State University Expels Student and Marks Constitution Day with Campus Events

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Sept. 17, 2025) - Texas State University confirmed the expulsion of a student who mocked the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus vigil, as the university observes Constitution Day and hosts parking feedback town halls today.

Student Expelled After Mocking Video
On Tuesday, university president Kelly Damphouse announced that the individual featured in a viral video re-enacting Charlie Kirk’s death is no longer enrolled at Texas State. Governor Greg Abbott had called for the student’s immediate expulsion after clips circulated showing the student feigning being shot and spitting on the ground during a Turning Point USA memorial event.
President Damphouse condemned the behavior, stating, “I will not tolerate behavior that mocks, trivializes, or promotes violence on our campuses. It is antithetical to our TXST values”.
Campus Constitution Day Observance
In honor of Constitution Day, the Student Government is distributing pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution at the Quad from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today. The annual event aims to educate students on civic responsibilities and the significance of the founding document.
Parking Feedback Town Halls
The University Police Department, in collaboration with Walker Consultants, is conducting a series of town hall meetings through Sept. 19 to gather student and staff input on parking design, operations, and technology. Sessions at the San Marcos campus are scheduled as follows:
- 5:00 p.m. today at the Student Services Building, 5th Floor
- 7:00 p.m. Sept. 18 at the LBJ Student Center, Room 3-10.1
Participants are encouraged to share concerns and suggestions to inform future parking improvements.
The university’s multifaceted activities today reflect a balance between enforcing conduct standards and promoting active student engagement in campus and civic affairs.
