Sugar Ray, Monster Trucks Thrill Crowds at Kern County Fair

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Sugar Ray rocked the Budweiser Pavilion and high-octane Monster Trucks revved through the Grandstand Arena as thousands flocked to the Kern County Fair today, Sept. 20, 2025.

In its fourth day of a 12-day run, the fair delivered live music, stunt shows and family entertainment across its 160-acre grounds, drawing both local residents and visitors from across the Central Valley.

Shortly after midday performances by Magic of Frank Thurston and the All Star Stunt Dog Challenge, the spotlight shifted to the dirt track at 7 p.m., where snarling Monster Trucks crushed cars and soared over ramps, eliciting cheers and applause from packed stands. One local fan noted, “The crowd was on its feet when each truck launched into the air-absolutely spectacular.”

Eight-piece rock band Sugar Ray then took the stage at the Budweiser Pavilion at 8 p.m., reviving ’90s hits like “Every Morning” and “Fly.” Admission to both the concert and Monster Truck show was included with fair entry, boosting overall attendance and energy throughout the evening.

Earlier in the day, family-friendly attractions ran on multiple stages, including Hypnotist Tina Marie, Violin on Fire and Drumheads performances. Food vendors served everything from funnel cakes to street tacos, while carnival rides offered unlimited thrills with wristband purchases.

Fair organizers report steady traffic flow despite minor street closures around South P Street and Ming Avenue, implemented for pedestrian safety. The event continues through Sunday, Sept. 28, featuring daily concerts, livestock shows, and specialty days such as Feed the Need on Sept. 23 and Senior Day specials.
